FFC- Pandemic Edition: Review of Village Bar

Image
Review of Village Bar, Kieler, WI For this week's Fish Fry review, we ordered carry-out from one of my all-time favorite fish fry locations, and supper clubs, Village Bar in Kieler, WI.  I have always loved going to the Village Bar for their drinks, fish, atmosphere, and grasshoppers!  Since we have not been dining in just yet, we ordered carry-out :) We ordered carry-out to be picked up at 5:30pm.  Our order was ready on time, and even though it was about a 20 minute drive back to our house, our food was still warm.  For Lent, the Village Bar had a few different options. See specials below.  My husband and I decided to go with the cod special, while my mom (who dined with us), chose the Trio Platter.   All items are deep fried and come with choice of potato, coleslaw & tartar sauce.  I chose a baked potato, while my husband chose fries.  At first glance the three small pieces of fish I received had a very thick fried batter surrounding t...

FFC- Pandemic Edition: Review of Fat Tuesday's

Image
Fat Tuesday's-- Dubuque, IA We have had a crazy busy last few weeks!  And within those weeks we ended up getting Fat Tuesday's on 3/12, and liked it so much that we order again last Friday, 3/19. Why did we like it so much?  I'll tell you why.  Fat Tuesday's is known more for its cajun type of food, so when we got a recommendation from a friend who knew I loved fish fry's, we thought, what the heck, we'll try it out.  For their Friday Fish Fry, here are their options: Every Friday of lent: Atlantic Cod $13 Jumbo Shrimp $15 Atlantic Cod & Jumbo Shrimp Combo $15 They are available deep fried or pan fried with choice of salad (coleslaw, cottage cheese or salad) and choice of starch (French fries or rice). We ordered the deep fried Atlantic cod dinner, with french fries, and coleslaw. When you order, you can just call Fat Tuesday's and tell them a time you'd like the dinner to be ready. This was very convenient for us. We asked for it to be ready by ...

FFC: Pandemic Edition- Week 2: West Dubuque Tap

Image
Week 2: West Dubuque Tap In the first week, we had hoped to order from West Dubuque Tap, but we called and called and couldn't get an answer.  So this week, a friend told us to call early and order it for pick up at a later time.  So at around 4:00pm we ordered for pick up at 5:15pm.  When I arrived at WDT, our food had just been packaged up, and the gentleman behind the bar who took our payment was very friendly.  When I got home we opened our containers and I was very excited at how good the fish looked, and the additional food items that dinner came with.  Their fish dinners were around $15 (we forgot to ask specific price, but I think it was around $15 by what we paid).  In a fish dinner you received 4 good size pieces of fish, choice of potato, small side salad (macaroni and/or coleslaw), a dinner roll, AND dessert!  At first glance I was very impressed at how good everything looked.  I got fish, baked potato, and macaroni salad.  ...

FFC: Pandemic Edition-Week 1--Rhody's

Image
FFC: Pandemic Edition-Week 1--Rhody's Rhody's is one of my favorite fish fry spots.  It was my number one fish fry place a few years ago.  So this pandemic fish fry season, we decided to try out their carry out fish fry.  Our fish fry was ordered over the phone.  When we ordered, the fish fry was $10 for 3 pieces of cod or catfish, and comes with coleslaw, dinner roll, and choice of potato.  We ordered one cod dinner with french fries, and one catfish dinner with a baked potato.  And asked for extra tartar sauce!!   I also ordered a Brandy old fashioned to-go (which was my first time doing this!).  They said it would take about 40 minutes to wait, which we were happy to do.  When I arrived at Rhody's to pick up our meal, I was happy to see our order was ready to go.  However, the price of the fish fry dinner was actually $13.50, not the $10 we were told, and all payments paid via card had a 3% service charge.  This was fi...
