FFC- Pandemic Edition: Review of Fat Tuesday's
Fat Tuesday's-- Dubuque, IA
We have had a crazy busy last few weeks! And within those weeks we ended up getting Fat Tuesday's on 3/12, and liked it so much that we order again last Friday, 3/19.
Why did we like it so much? I'll tell you why.
Fat Tuesday's is known more for its cajun type of food, so when we got a recommendation from a friend who knew I loved fish fry's, we thought, what the heck, we'll try it out.
For their Friday Fish Fry, here are their options:
Every Friday of lent:
Atlantic Cod $13
Jumbo Shrimp $15
Atlantic Cod & Jumbo Shrimp Combo $15
They are available deep fried or pan fried with choice of salad (coleslaw, cottage cheese or salad) and choice of starch (French fries or rice).
We ordered the deep fried Atlantic cod dinner, with french fries, and coleslaw.
When you order, you can just call Fat Tuesday's and tell them a time you'd like the dinner to be ready. This was very convenient for us. We asked for it to be ready by 5:30pm.
This time we weren't able to do curb-side pickup as they were short staffed, so you had to go in to pick it up. Going in wasn't hard, but curbside pickup is so much easier. When I picked up our meals, the place was busy, not over-crowded, but busy with people eating, sitting at the bar, and picking up meals. The staff was very nice and even accommodated my request for multiple extras of tartar sauce :)
When we got home, we knew what to expect when it came to our order, and we got exactly what we ordered. Fish, fries, coleslaw, and a slice of garlic-ish bread.
So I'll tell you this upfront, last week when we ordered fish, it was better than than this time. However, the fish was cooked a little better this time around. The deep fried fish was lightly fried, nothing too extreme, was fairly easy to pull apart, but sections of the cod were a little tough. The seasoning they put on the fish is excellent. Not sure what it is but its perfect for cod. And they give you a pretty good amount of fish, I think mine had 4-5 pieces! The fries, were a little soggy, but this is what you get nowadays with to-go orders so this didn't surprise me. The fries were lightly coated with some sort of seasoning salt that was very, very good. I'm not a huge fries person with my fish (I like baked potatoes) but these fries were actually very good. The tartar sauce... OMF (oh my favorite!), it was excellent! Exactly the type of tartar sauce I like, or even better! So happy I asked for extras :) The bread that came with the meal was a little soggy by the time we got to it and it was OK. Couldn't tell exactly what seasoning was on it, but it seemed to have a hint of garlic. Honestly, I was too full to care about the bread at that point, but still tried it and like I said, it was OK.
Overall, for the cost of the fish fry, and the overall taste of the fish fry meal items (LOVED the tartar sauce), this was a good fish fry. I would highly recommend it during the pandemic as a good option for your Friday night fish fry. I will say I'm going to have to dine in someday to get the full experience and see if the taste is different when its fresh.
