FFC: Pandemic Edition- Week 2: West Dubuque Tap

 Week 2: West Dubuque Tap

In the first week, we had hoped to order from West Dubuque Tap, but we called and called and couldn't get an answer.  So this week, a friend told us to call early and order it for pick up at a later time.  So at around 4:00pm we ordered for pick up at 5:15pm.

When I arrived at WDT, our food had just been packaged up, and the gentleman behind the bar who took our payment was very friendly.

When I got home we opened our containers and I was very excited at how good the fish looked, and the additional food items that dinner came with.  Their fish dinners were around $15 (we forgot to ask specific price, but I think it was around $15 by what we paid).  In a fish dinner you received 4 good size pieces of fish, choice of potato, small side salad (macaroni and/or coleslaw), a dinner roll, AND dessert!

At first glance I was very impressed at how good everything looked.  I got fish, baked potato, and macaroni salad.  I had asked for extra tartar sauce, but it appeared they did not give us extra.  The fish was perfectly cooked with a light seasoning, and was very flavorful. I almost had nothing bad to say about the fish, but the only thing I would comment on is that it was too flaky. The fish was cooked so well that it fell apart, so you had to scoop some of it.  The tartar sauce was AMAZING! Absolutely loved their homemade sauce.  However, with only two small containers of sauce and 4 good sized pieces of fish, I did run out of sauce :(  But the fish was good on its own so that was a plus.

The baked potato was cooked perfectly, but I had to wait to eat it another day because the fish really filled me up.  I did eat the macaroni salad, which was OK, not terrible, but was a little runny so I felt the flavor didn't stick well. I also had the dinner roll, which I normally don't eat with my fish dinners, mainly because I don't want to get filled up with other items, but I did try the dinner roll and WOW it was so fresh I just had to finish it. Very good.  My husband got fries and had the coleslaw, to which he said the fries had good flavoring, but the coleslaw was 'eh' as it too was really runny.

Now for the icing on the top of this great dinner--the dessert!!  They give you bite sized blueberry muffins....with frosting!  They were so delicious. Very moist and a perfect end to a really good dinner.

Overall, this was a great meal.  The fish was excellent, the tartar sauce excellent, the potato was good, the dinner roll--so good, and the dessert, a great surprise end to our meal.

I would highly recommend stopping by and grabbing a fish dinner from West Dubuque Tap, but be prepared to call ahead.
