FFC: Pandemic Edition-Week 1--Rhody's

 FFC: Pandemic Edition-Week 1--Rhody's

Rhody's is one of my favorite fish fry spots.  It was my number one fish fry place a few years ago.  So this pandemic fish fry season, we decided to try out their carry out fish fry.

Our fish fry was ordered over the phone.  When we ordered, the fish fry was $10 for 3 pieces of cod or catfish, and comes with coleslaw, dinner roll, and choice of potato.  We ordered one cod dinner with french fries, and one catfish dinner with a baked potato.  And asked for extra tartar sauce!!   I also ordered a Brandy old fashioned to-go (which was my first time doing this!).  They said it would take about 40 minutes to wait, which we were happy to do.

When I arrived at Rhody's to pick up our meal, I was happy to see our order was ready to go.  However, the price of the fish fry dinner was actually $13.50, not the $10 we were told, and all payments paid via card had a 3% service charge.  This was fine, but had we known that, I might have brought cash instead, but they never said anything on the phone.  What was nice is they did wait to make my old fashioned once I arrived, so it wasn't super watered down.  The staff who made my drink and processed my payment were super nice and friendly.

Once home with our meal (and drink), we were super excited to have our Rhody's fish as we love their fish dinners.  As you can see from the photos, we received all items that we ordered and the food was hot.  Since I ordered the catfish, I'll focus on that, but my husband got the cod and he commented that it was 'OK', not the best, as it was very fried.  The catfish I had was overall good; one piece I had was a little mushy on the inside but the flavor was really good.  The coleslaw was awesome!! I am picky about coleslaw and I really enjoyed their coleslaw.  The baked potato was cooked perfectly, but they only provided butter and no sour cream.  The dinner roll was great as well. The biggest negative of the meal was the tartar sauce. As you can see in the photos, the sauce was in individual cups.  This was disappointing because I was hoping I would get Rhody's homemade tartar sauce, but it looks like they either do not provide that for carry-outs or are not making it during the pandemic.  The sauce wasn't terrible, which was good, but y'all know I love tartar sauce so I was super disappointed by this.

The old fashioned...was amazing!! So delicious.  I have not had an old fashioned for over a year (pregnancy), so I was very happy at how good it was.

Overall, this fish fry was not a bad start to the pandemic fish fry season.  The catfish is typically good at Rhody's and overall their price is not bad for a fish dinner.  If you don't mind the drive out to Rhody's, I'd recommend ordering a fish dinner carry out this season.
